  4. The site was chosen due to its proximity to the important Kasbah Mosque, which dates back to the 1100s. The fifth and final Saadian ruler was responsible for the construction of many of the major buildings within the complex of the Saadian Tombs. He built lavish mausoleums in equally opulent structures. Materials included imported Italian marble and gold, with eye-catching tilework, known as zellige, plasterwork and woodwork. The entire complex radiates beauty.

  5. The Mellah of Marrakech, formerly known as Hay Essalam is the Jewish quarter of the city of Marrakech, Morocco. It is the second oldest of its kind in the country.El Mellah, the Jewish quarter, has always been a district of exchanges. 6. Surely one of the most extraordinary imperial relics of Morocco, the Palais Bahia (“the brilliant”) doesn’t disappoint. Built at the start of the 19th century by architect El Mekki for Si Moussa, the then chamberlain of Sultan Hassan I, the palace showcases a wide range of architectural styles hinting at the chamberlain’s playful spirit, especially after his son inherited it and added his own brand of flamboyant glamour to the place.

About Marrakesch

Top-ranked sights in Marrakesch: Atlas Mountains, Tizi-n'Tichka Pass, Jemaa el-Fna (Djemaa el-Fna).
