  • 5Great day

Very well organized. The ferry took about 25 minutes. We were all greeted at the end of the pier. We had prearranged a beach cabana since it was just my husband and myself. Worth it.! Peaceful overlooking the beautiful quiet beach. Bring water shoes. Tons of coral. But very warm water and snorkeling off the beach. Great lunch. Just a perfect day. We stayed until 5.30 but some people left earlier. Infinity pool but small and kids.

  • 1Pathetic booking process meant we could not travel

We were blocked from traveling. The operator would not deal with me as customer, demanding that all liaison is via my booking agent. It wasn’t clear whether this was an open voucher, or actually booked for our day in-flight to a late arrival. By the time the booking went back and forth, and the weekend when the agent is closed, my chosen two days were blocked for a private function. A pathetic handling, when every other operator liaise directly with the passenger.

  • 5Loved it, but wish I’d gone half the day.

Went with the husband and two kids. Bus picked us up from Hilton, and it was about a 5-10 min ride to the port. We were the first in line waiting for the ship just before 9am. There was plenty of room above and below deck, with air conditioning. I’m a scardy cat when it comes to being in open water, but the trip was very smooth and comfortable. It was about 25-30 mins but it honestly felt like 20 mins. I also don’t like getting off ships and going in those smaller ones to get to shore, but the ship to malamala drops you off at the jetty thing. So it’s an easy on and easy off the ship. The island is beautiful. Gorgeous sand and pretty water. However, there are heaps of rocks and shells on the beach, so it wasn’t great to wade through the water. Still, there were plenty of people in the water and everyone seemed to be having a wonderful time. We hired two cabanas because there were 2 adults and 2 kids and when we were booking, the website claimed only two per cabana. However, you could easily fit a family of five or six under the same cabana. But I think those cabanas are more beneficial for couples or adults. If I were to go again, I would definitely book pool side because my kids spent most of the time at the pools, and the cabanas were waisted on us. Our personal butler, was a beautiful young woman who was very attentive and lovely. But like all Fijian people, you don’t come across any that aren’t kind and super sweet. I didn’t take full advantage of the beach, nor did I walk around the entire thing, which I now regret. The food at the restaurant was tasty (the best we had in Fiji). We booked a full day, but were so over it that we caught the 4pm ship instead of the one at 5. Though I think that was just us having spent too much time out in the sun the previous days that we were already super drained before we even got to Malamala. Even so, if I went back, I would only do half the day. And I would definately visit the island again.

About Viti Levu

Viti Levu is the largest island in Fiji, home to the capital Suva, the airport town of Nadi, the Coral Coast and a mountainous green interior.

Viti Levu is the largest of Fiji's islands and home to most of its people. Nadi, in the drier west, has the international airport, while Suva, the capital and biggest city, sits on the wetter south-east coast with a harbour, a busy market and colonial-era buildings. Between them the Queens Road follows the Coral Coast, a stretch of fringing reef, beach resorts and small villages.
