This beautiful part of Australia receives many visitors, both animal and human. The trained guides at Coral Bay Ecotours prioritise the comfort and safety of all guests, but we also do our best to ensure everybody enjoys themselves. Those who are swimming with the humpback whales will have a chance to interact closely with them, but our guests who wish to observe from a distance will also have plenty to keep them mesmerised. On our humpback whale tours, we often see other striking animals like dolphins and manta rays, and of course, mother whales resting while their calves frolic in the calm waters. These splendid animals have also been spotted amusing themselves by rolling in the water, waving at us with their huge pectoral fins, slapping their giant tails playfully, and even jumping out of the water!

5Great experience
This was a very good experience with a very professional team: clear rules and a lot of explanations. This was just magic. And top we get pictures of what we saw.
5Fantastic experience!
One of the best experience of my life. The team was great, professional, passionate, knowledgeable, kind and caring. They really wanted us to have the best experience and they did all their best to make it possible. They worked hard to make us able to swim next to the whales! Incredible. The snorkling part inside the reef was great as well. They know where to look and they explain to us a lot about the reef and their inhabitants. At the end of the day we got very beautiful and professional photos and video that will stay with us forever. I have to thank the team more than anything else for their patience and kindness with me. Without them I would never see these majestic wonderful animals so close! Thank you team!
3Good whale-watching, bad whale swimming
Reading all these rave reviews I’m not sure if we were just unlucky, or whether disappointed people don’t post reviews. My partner bought me a humpback whale swim tour for my 50th birthday, which I was super excited about. Unfortunately we only got in the water with a whale once, and the visibility was so bad that about a third of the group - including me - did not see a thing. My partner saw a vague shape in the gloom. I’m not saying don’t go, but here are the things to be aware of: 1) Even if you see lots of whales, you can only get in with ones that don’t have calves and aren’t doing anything potentially dangerous, like pec-slapping or breaching. 2) “Swimming with” is a bit misleading - they drop you into the path of a passing whale and hope you see it as it goes by. 3) Conditions make or break - it had been stormy before our trip so the water was all stirred up and murky and there was a huge swell, so there was never much chance of a good encounter. Had this been billed as a whale watching trip it would have been a great success - we did see several whales from the boat, and some cool action like calves breaching. But as a whale swimming tour it was a disappointment, and for that reason we all came away feeling pretty flat. Maybe you will have an incredible experience - but have realistic expectations that you may see nothing underwater, if you’re lucky enough to find a whale you can get in with in the first place. You also do a couple of in-reef snorkels, which we found nice enough but not amazing. (Also poor vis) but we have done a lot of diving in incredible places so may have a higher bar.
5Awe inspiring, what an adventure!
Being in the water with humpback whales is an awe inspiring moment. This was an amazing day out in every way, from the reef snorkels in a real life aquarium, seeing green sea turtles and reef sharks, watching the humpbacks breach and tail slap to swimming with the magnificent bus sized whales. Thanks to Mike, Esther, Jess, Laura and Captain Paul for a day we will never forget!
5Highly recommended
A fabulous day. Guides were very experienced, fun , knowledgeable and great clear communicators. They were very keen to get get us the best whale swim possible despite the whales not cooperating initiallly. All the equipment was good and fab photos by Laura were included. Thank you for a fab day team Humpy.
5Experience of a lifetime!
I can wholeheartedly say this was the best money I’ve spent on any experience or tour in my life. It’s always been a dream of mine to swim with humpback whales. I booked this tour with my sister and friend and was sure we’d see a lot of whales but thought we had to be pretty lucky to have a good in-water interaction with them. To my delight, this was not at all the case. The tour was incredibly well organised and coordinated. They had spotter planes above who seamlessly coordinated our drop ins with the directions the whales swum in and we successfully had incredible interactions with 4 separate pods of whales. Each one just as magnificent and special to the last. From the moment we stepped on the boat in the morning, I felt that we were in safe and professional hands. The crew were so friendly and knowledgeable and made sure everyone was having a good time and felt safe. The swimming with whales was better than I ever could have imagined, truly a dream come true. I would book it again in a heartbeat. The snorkelling was also incredible and full of diverse, rich marine life. The on board photographer was incredibly talented and meant we could just be present and soak up every moment in the water with all the magnificent creatures of the sea which was a huge bonus. We were well fed throughout the day and treated to some sparkling at the end of the day to celebrate what quickly became the best day of our lives! If you’re considering booking this tour, I couldn’t recommend it enough. 0 notes for improvement. Can’t wait to come back and do it again! Coral Bay is a tiny resort village on Western Australia's Ningaloo Coast, where a fringing coral reef lies just metres from the beach.
Coral Bay is a small settlement of caravan parks, a shop and a handful of places to stay, set on a curve of white sand on the Ningaloo Coast of Western Australia. The nearest large town is far away across red earth and low scrub, and the reef is the reason the village exists.
