Ablauf

1. Join our small group (max. 4 persons), and come to live on skis the magic atmospehere of the snowy forest at night, a snowy landscape lit sometimes by the moonlight, by the stars or perhaps by the northern lights (aurora)! Sometimes (cloudy weather, new moon) it will be darker around us and we´ll only see in the fan of our headlamp, the rest will remain unknown...The snowy forest at night has his charm in every weather! The treks takes place in a remote area, 30 min. away from Rovaniemi, far from towns and marked trails; for first we´ll go through the base techniques of trekking-skis; then we´ll start to ski through snowy forests, and frozen swamps towards the kota, traditional lappish tent. The kota will be our basecamp; we´ll light a fire in it, grill a snack, and relax sitting on reindeer skins. All throughout the trek we´ll check the sky to look for stars and the northern lights. If you bring along your camera, I will help you set it to get nice pictures of the northern lights.

2. the duration of the whole tour is 5 hours, but the duratíon of the actual trek is 3 hours. The remaining 2 hours is dedicated to pick up/drop off, getting dressed with overall and winter boots and driving to the trek´s starting point and back

About Rovaniemi

Rovaniemi, on the edge of the Arctic Circle in Finnish Lapland, is a river city known for Santa Claus Village, northern lights, reindeer and deep snow.

Rovaniemi is the capital of Finnish Lapland, set where the Kemijoki and Ounasjoki rivers join, just south of the Arctic Circle. The town was rebuilt after being burnt in the Second World War, and its street plan, drawn by the architect Alvar Aalto, is said to echo a reindeer's antlers. Arktikum, a museum and science centre, tells the story of life in the Arctic, and a lit footbridge known as the Lumberjack's Candle crosses the river.
