Highlights

Get to know Arles on a 2-hour walking tour of this historic French city. Maybe you have already heard about this place, as it is famous for its festival of photography, "Rencontres d'Arles", which takes place every year in summer. But let's focus on discovering the historical center of this amazing city. Arles has important remains of Roman times, and you will start your tour by discovering the exterior arena of Roman amphitheater, constructed in the 1st century. Then admire the Antique Theatre and the Arles Obelisk. If you would like to see another place, simply let your guide know your wishes and your tour will be adjusted accordingly. Keep in mind that Arles is also rich in museums, like Musée de la Camargue or Musée Réaltu, which you can visit on your own. Additionally, some of the buildings and cathedrals of Arles are UNESCO World Heritage Sites, and are a wonder to behold.

About Arles

Arles, a Provençal city on the Rhône, is known for its Roman arena and theatre, for Van Gogh, and for the wild marshes of the Camargue to the south.

Arles stands on the Rhône where the river splits into two arms to cross the Camargue, in Provence. Under the Romans it was a major city, and a first-century amphitheatre, the Arènes, still seats thousands for bullfights and concerts. The Roman theatre, the baths of Constantine and the stone tombs of the Alyscamps are listed by UNESCO. Vincent van Gogh lived here in 1888 and 1889 and painted the Café Terrace at Night on the Place du Forum.
