Embroidered paintings are paintings that embroiderers sew with needles and thread based on sketches drawn by Japanese painters, and are then made into wall hangings or folding screens. They were actively produced as Japan's representative fine arts and crafts, mainly during the Meiji period, and are considered the pinnacle of Japanese embroidery.
Top-ranked sights in Kyoto: Fushimi Inari Shrine (Fushimi Inari Taisha), Kinkaku-ji (Golden Pavilion), Kiyomizu-dera Temple.
