Ablauf

1. The grandeur of the ancient Greek culture unfolds in Ancient Olympia, the birthplace of the Olympic Games. We will first visit the ancient Stadium, built before the 6th century BC, where the Games took place.

   1 Std.

2. Our next stop is the Sanctuary of Zeus, built in 470 BC, which is the largest temple in the Peloponnese. The temple housed ine of the seven wonders of the ancient world, a 13.5 meter golden statue of the god, made by Phidias.

   30 Min.

3. We continue the tour to the archaeological museum of Anc. Olympia, with more than 400 exhibits, dated from the prehistoric period to the 5th century AD. We will have a complete understanding of the historical development and admire how Olympia was an inexhaustible source of culture and spirit in ancient Greece.

   1,5 Std.

4. In the end of our tour we will stroll through the ancient city, where we will see buildings and temples that depict the beauty, harmony and balance in ancient Greek art.

About Nafplio

Nafplio is a seaside town in the Peloponnese, once the first capital of modern Greece, with Venetian lanes, a harbour fortress and a hilltop castle.

Nafplio sits on the Argolic Gulf in the north-eastern Peloponnese, a town of neoclassical mansions, Venetian houses and flower-hung balconies climbing from the waterfront. It was the first capital of modern Greece, from 1823 to 1834. The Bourtzi, a small castle on an islet, guards the harbour, and Palamidi, a Venetian fortress on a rock above the town, is reached by a long staircase or by road.
