Highlights
For travelers seeking an immersive, self-directed adventure off the beaten path, this four-day journey blends guided expertise with the freedom to explore at your own pace. Based in Klawock, you’ll hike through old-growth forest, kayak across a pristine freshwater lake, and venture underground into the remarkable El Capitan Cave system, all while discovering the vast road network and raw beauty of Prince of Wales Island. This itinerary combines structured outdoor experiences, including guided hikes and kayaking, with ample independent time to explore the Tongass National Forest by rental vehicle. Ideal as a standalone Alaska getaway, this active program delivers authentic wilderness, solitude, and true backcountry access in one of Southeast Alaska’s most remote and scenic destinations.
