The Laguna del Sauce or popularly known as "Laguna Azul", is located in the district of Sauce, in the department of San Martín. 50 km from the city of Tarapoto on the southern marginal highway, the Huallaga river crosses from Puerto López (36km) on a captive beacon (a boat that can be transported by means of a pulley system and the force of the river current) several tons of weight from one shore to another). From there you travel 16 km to reach the lagoon, which occupies an area of 430, 80 hectares at almost 900 meters above sea level. It is called that because the days of clear sky, it is reflected on the water, giving it a bright blue color.

3Laguna Azul is nice but could have been better with paved roads going there
The Laguna Azul is very beautiful with a lot of things to do. The only drawback in getting there is the road. Half of the road is unpaved and narrow going through the mountains and very dangerous. Our driver did not turn on the air condition and considering the unpaved roads, the dust is getting inside the vehicle during a very hot summer day.

Tarapoto is a busy city of Peru's upper Amazon in the San Martín region, known as the City of Palms, with waterfalls, lakes, coffee and chocolate.
Tarapoto lies in the foothills where the Andes descend to the Amazon basin, in the San Martín region of northern Peru, at roughly 350 metres above sea level. Its warm climate, green hills and palm-lined streets earned it the name Ciudad de las Palmeras. The city is the main centre of a region of coffee, cacao and tropical fruit farms, and Moyobamba, the regional capital, lies a couple of hours to the north-west by road.
