2. The tour begins with a pick-up near the cruise port (exact location arranged before departure) and returns to the same location. A climate-controlled vehicle will take you to the small, cliff-top town of Taormina to visit the Greek theater(Optional extra-cost), Palazzo Corvaja, and the Cathedral. Take in the amazing view of Mount Etna and Giardini Naxos bay, and spend two hours exploring the town by yourself, before meeting at an established time and place for the drive back to Messina. (Guide will give all the information onboard then you will have free-time in the town).

3. Messina is the city when your cruise is docked.. On the way to get Taormina you will have a panoramic view of the Messina strait. Then at the back the driver/guide will show you the cathedral and the clock tower. The end of the day will be close the port on time for the cruise-ship departure.

  Bus trip to Taormina in a smaller mercedes bus big windows with airco. Guide (Micheal) funny and provided lots of good info...Plenty if time to walk into town for food,drinks, and fun shops..great views to the sea..

  So glad we booked this excursion our Italian tour guide was hilarious gave good information about the area then dropped us off in the beautiful town of Taromina before all the big buses came from the cruise ships. The van was very comfortable and we only had 15 people in our group got back to the ship a few hours before the crowds.

  Good experience, very interesting cometary, lots of history and explanation of local culture both past and the not so past! The day got quite wet which changed our plans a little, we enjoyed our lunch and walking around the town

About Messina

Messina, in north-east Sicily, is a port city on the Strait of Messina, facing Calabria across a narrow stretch of fast-flowing water.

Messina occupies the north-east tip of Sicily, where the strait is only a few kilometres wide and ferries cross constantly to the Italian mainland. An earthquake and tsunami in December 1908 destroyed most of the city, so its centre was rebuilt with wide streets and low buildings. The cathedral, rebuilt after the earthquake and again after wartime damage, has a bell tower with a large astronomical clock whose mechanical figures move at noon.
