Clearwater Beach is on a barrier island reached by causeway from the mainland city of Clearwater, west of Tampa on Florida's Gulf coast. Its fine white sand slopes gently into warm, shallow water. Pier 60, at the heart of the beach, holds an evening sunset celebration with street performers and craft stalls, and a nearby marine rescue centre cares for dolphins and sea turtles.
