Far from mass tourism and near El Calafate is Nibepo Aike Ranch, a place that stores the essence of old Patagonian ranches. Nibepo Aike covers 12,000 ha and it is delimitated by the south branch of the Argentinean Lake and the border of Chile marked by the Andes range. Dedicated to cattle production with a Hereford farm and many remains of great times for ovine production, this place is ideal to immerse in the lifestyle of an authentic Patagonian ranch.
Departure from El Calafate to take Road 15, also known as “The Ranches Trail”. During the journey it’s normal to see condors, foxes and hares in Cerro Frías as protagonists. After crossing Rio Rico, the scenery changes abruptly to turn into a cordillera landscape.
The guide will welcome you and take you to "El Quincho" (barbecue area) where you will have a hot beverage (tea, coffee or mate) with homemade pastries
Tour through the facilities of this typical Patagonian ranch. Hiking to see the south branch of the Argentinean Lake, and to discover varied rocky formations eroded by glacier action and the changes in the lake’s levels. After the hiking, we go to the door of the shearing barn. The whole process will be explained and scissors will be used to make a demonstration of the traditional way to shear. Afterwards we’ll proceed to do a “test of rein” with riders or farm labor in the stables close to the center, depending on the activities of the day.
Lunch at El Quincho where lamb will be ready to taste its delicious meat while enjoying the view of the Cordillera.
We return to the city of El Calafate and we will drop you off at your hotel.

El Calafate is a small Patagonian town on the shore of Lago Argentino, the base for the Perito Moreno Glacier and Los Glaciares National Park.
El Calafate lies on the south shore of Lago Argentino, a milky turquoise lake fed by glacial meltwater, with the Andes on the western horizon. The town is named after the calafate, a thorny shrub with dark berries, and a local saying promises that anyone who eats them will return to Patagonia. It was founded in the 1920s to serve the surrounding sheep estancias and now exists chiefly as the gateway to Los Glaciares National Park.
Top-ranked sights in El Calafate: Los Glaciares National Park (Parque Nacional Los Glaciares), Perito Moreno Glacier, Argentino Lake (Lago Argentino).
