  • 5Well worth it!

A great tour and experience made all the better by our guide Linda. Well worth the money to learn a bit about the history of Windhoek and the Katatura township area.

  • 5Great tour to learn about the way of life in the township

I am very happy I did this tour. I wanted to see and learn more of the townships in Windhoek. I’ve heard a lot of great things about guide Linda and she was my guide too. Very friendly, knowledgable she did a great job. A good way to learn about the city’s history and life in the townships. You are mostly in the car. A township tour I did in South Africa was on foot but that was a much smaller township so I understand why this one was by car. Visiting the market was interesting and the Kapana was very nice!!

  • 5The perfect beginning for our Namibian adventure.

This was such an extraordinary experience. We were picked up by our guide and driver. Both were so warm and friendly and lived in Katutura. We had a mini-tour of downtown Windhoek (it's a pretty mini-downtown) with a lot of history, then headed over to Katutura and wrapped up with incredible barbecued meats at the kapana there -- a big, communal experience. What made this experience extraordinary and a crucial foundation for our trip is that our guide was willing to tell us about his own family history, life under South African occupation, and life in the 1990s as Namibia was beginning its life as an independent nation. We are so grateful for his openness and honesty.

  • 1Absolutely disgusting

Absolutely terrible: 1. The guides’ English was poor and all 1,5 hours of our trip he was almost silent or could hardly answer our questions 2. Guide was not aware about our tour??? He supposed that the market in katatura is the only point. When we tried to show him initial intenary where market was only one hour of 3 to 4 of the entire tour he was really surprised and unprepared 3. He could not show us anything else in Katutura and nothing at all in Wanaheda (1 hour in description) 4. He struggled to get us to Pioneer Park (several times taking wrong directions) but the guide failed to give us any reasonable info about the place which was closed when we finally arrived. We lost 2 hours of our holidays and some money ( which were not refunded) for this disgusting experience. Don’t repeat our mistake and better use other company

  • 5Very interesting and insightful.

What a wonderful and insightful tour by a local. Linda was our guide - friendly, bright and a joy to be around. Highly recommend to see another part of Windhoek that you may not in Katutura but an important part of history.

  • 510/10 would recommend

I would highly recommend this trip for any westerners looking to experience Namibia authentically. Uushona was an absolutely great guide who showed me places that I definitely would not had gone if not for this tour and he really made me feel welcome in his home town. His knowledge of the area and his connections here made the tour truly one of a kind.

About Windhoek

Windhoek is Namibia's compact capital on a high central plateau, with German colonial buildings, craft markets and wild country in every direction.

Windhoek lies about 1,650 metres above sea level in the middle of Namibia, ringed by hills and thorn bush. It began as a German colonial post in the 1890s, and the Christuskirche, a Lutheran church of 1910 in pale sandstone, and the Alte Feste, an old fort that is now a museum, recall that period. The Tintenpalast, the seat of parliament, stands in a garden, and Independence Avenue runs through the centre.

Top-ranked sights in Windhoek: Deadvlei, Etosha National Park, National Museum of Namibia.
