  1. Since this is a walking tour, we start the tour at the place where 2000 years ago people were walking into the city. You will learn how and why the position changed in 1500s. You will see the most beautiful city gate in all Dalmatia and get a chance to compare it with some other monuments.

  2. You will learn how the square developed over centuries to present day form and apearance. Today it is largly marked by 16th century Loggia and City Guard as well as 20th century City Hall. The challange will be to find the Roman elements ;)

At the big, spacious Square of Petar Zoranić, there are ruins surrounded by fence and the tall, large column nearby. It will be hard to miss your guide dressed as a Roman soldier, especially with red tunic quite visible despite the armour.

About Zadar

Zadar, on Croatia's Dalmatian coast, is an old Roman and Venetian town on a peninsula, known for its sea organ and the sunsets beside it.

The old town of Zadar sits on a narrow peninsula, bordered by Venetian walls and the Land Gate. The remains of a Roman forum lie beside the round church of St Donatus, a ninth-century building that is the best-known landmark. Kalelarga, the main pedestrian street, follows the line of the Roman main street, with shops and cafés, and the cathedral of St Anastasia stands nearby.
