Since this is a walking tour, we start the tour at the place where 2000 years ago people were walking into the city. You will learn how and why the position changed in 1500s. You will see the most beautiful city gate in all Dalmatia and get a chance to compare it with some other monuments.
You will learn how the square developed over centuries to present day form and apearance. Today it is largly marked by 16th century Loggia and City Guard as well as 20th century City Hall. The challange will be to find the Roman elements ;)
Your guide will explain you how did this street and its name change in the past 2000 years. You will also learn what this street represent to locals and get to chance to see how its Roman heritage lates to contemporary life.
The second city gate offer multiple stories but we will concentrate on its Roman relevance. You will learn more about the income and wealth in Roman times. History repeats. Maybe.
How would it feel to walk the very same stones that Roman citizens of Zadar walked on? The feeling will be that much better if you are acompanied and protected by a Roman guard. You will see the ruins of the temple, foundations of a basilica, and of course remnants of the Forum. You might be suprised how much of it still echoes in our lives.

About Zadar
Zadar, on Croatia's Dalmatian coast, is an old Roman and Venetian town on a peninsula, known for its sea organ and the sunsets beside it.
The old town of Zadar sits on a narrow peninsula, bordered by Venetian walls and the Land Gate. The remains of a Roman forum lie beside the round church of St Donatus, a ninth-century building that is the best-known landmark. Kalelarga, the main pedestrian street, follows the line of the Roman main street, with shops and cafés, and the cathedral of St Anastasia stands nearby.
