You will enjoy an insight into the old city of Muharraq and information about Bahrain that they might never be heard of before. Guests will be mesmerised by the traditional old Bahraini houses, their design, art, and atmosphere. Each house tells a different story talking about the Pearl diving history of Bahrain to current and traditional Bahraini art and design. This tour includes an exclusive entrance to Bahrain Pavillion and Bahrain Pearl Path monument where I will be explaining the importance of their existence throughout the history of Bahrain. Finally, guests are invited to a local Bahraini coffee shop where they are greeted by the owner who’s fully dressed up in a Bahraini traditional attire (thobe) and they will be given Arabic Bahraini tea, coffee, dates, sweets, and Tikka where I’ll be explaining the ingredients of each drink and food they eat and this is all included in the price.

  1. As of 2012, “Pearling, Testimony of an Island Economy” has become the second World Heritage Site of the Kingdom of Bahrain as the testimony of its millennia-old pearl collecting tradition and the globally significant single-product island economy and social system it produced. “Pearling, Testimony of an Island Economy” is a serial nomination consisting of 15 property components: three vast oyster beds located in the northern territorial waters of Bahrain, one seashore site at the southern tip of Bahrain’s Muharraq Island, and nine clusters of historic buildings consisting of seventeen architectural structures embedded in the urban fabric of Muharraq city. Taken together, the fifteen individual sites reflect the final expression and last remaining – and thus outstanding – example of a cultural tradition that dominated the Arabian Gulf from prehistory to the early 20th century.

  5. House of Art - At the heart of this house, there is a shortcut to the city of Muharraq through photographic works that capture the visual memory of this intimate city. In the art of poetry and deep language, the voice of the poet Mahmoud Darwish in some way compensates for his absence. Likewise, the sea offers a parallel charm, touching the place through preparatory work (qourqour) ties from each thread of his net a diver’s float fished by the sea. From this house, which was part of the original house of Sheikh Ebrahim Bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, the arts will speak of Muharraq with its visuals, of the magic of Bahrain and the sea, of the Arab world through the voice of the poet Mahmoud Darwish.

  6. MEMORY OF THE HOUSE - From that big house that once housed the council of Sheikh Ebrahim bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, as well as his library, correspondence, and intellectual and cultural meetings, nothing remains except for a single memory, faithful in its gestures and details. The memory that carries the details of his life, the personal belongings that remained after his death, is today the witness and guardian of time. The center takes visitors through the life of Sheikh Ebrahim Bin Mohammad Al Khalifa by touring his rooms, detailed with the furnishings of the time, decorated by delicate carvings, the stories that are told, and the things that evoke his memory in this house.

  7. House of Coffee - The House of Coffee opened its doors to the public on 2 April 2009. The House of Coffee represents a combination of three old traditional Bahraini houses. To maintain the overall look of the area and the small lane leading to the house, the traditional façade was retained. However, the interior of the houses was renovated and now functions as a café. Visitors to this area of Muharraq now have the opportunity to stop and rest at this café, sampling its modern and distinctive menu. The House of Coffee complements the traditional coffee place at the entrance of the area leading to the Shaikh Ebrahim Center.

  8. Kurar House - The Kurar House was established on 12 March 2007 to preserve the dying and unique Bahraini art of Kurar embroidery. The building provides a venue for elderly Bahraini ladies to pass on the art of the Kurar to younger generations. The Shaikh Ebrahim Center furthermore promotes the art and production of Kurar by supporting the artisans in their production and marketing of Kurar-embroidered clothes.

  • 5Energic & Culture Focused Tour - A MUST!

I cannot recommend this walking tour enough!!! 🤍✨ I did the afternoon pearling tour in Bahrain with Khaled, and it ended up being one of the highlights of my entire trip. From the very beginning, Khaled was incredibly easy to communicate with — super responsive, organized, and just genuinely kind. You could tell right away we were in good hands. The tour itself focused on Bahrain’s Muharraq Culture, their traditional houses and a bit about the pearling history, and WOW — I learned so much. The stories, the history, the cultural context… it was fascinating. It completely changed the way I see Bahrain and gave me such a deeper appreciation for its heritage. But what really made the experience special was Khaled. He’s funny, personable, and has this effortless way of bringing people together. He made sure everyone in the group felt included, comfortable, and engaged. By the end of the afternoon, it genuinely felt like we had become this tiny, adorable family wandering through history together. It wasn’t just informative — it was FUN. Lively conversations, great energy, lots of laughs, and such a meaningful way to spend an afternoon. And the tea, coffee and food was absolutely die for. Ending the night with cheesy bread was brilliant! If you’re visiting Bahrain and want something cultural, interactive, and full of heart, this is the tour to book. Thank you, Khaled, for such a memorable experience — I’ll be recommending this to everyone I know. 🌊🦪✨

  • 5Expert Guide with Amazing Hospitality and Wonderful Cultural Experience

This was the perfect experience for someone wanting to get a behind-the-scenes, local perspective of the Pearling Path and the heritage District of Old Muharraq. Khaled is the best local guide I’ve had! Great communication from the minute I booked through Trip Advisor. He was welcoming and early to meet us after giving clear instructions for our meet-up. He gave all the little local details that you could ask for and readily answered all of our questions. He even provided a couple of little treats from local establishments along the way. I appreciated the recommendations for other cultural activities for us to enjoy as well. He had lots of recs! The restored houses of Old Muharraq are not to be missed and I will be booking with Khaled! The tour itself is an easy walk but be aware, due to local infrastructure, it’s not suitable for those with limited mobility or those needing assistive devices.

  • 5Fun and informative

The tour was super insightful and informative. We could have not covered things in this detail through self exploration. The multiple snacks breaks kept things light and breezy even though we were walking for hours. Props to the tour guide Khaled for the amazing experience.

  • 5Excellent experience on the Muharraq Walking Tour

I had an excellent experience on the Muharraq Walking Tour, especially with our guide Khaled, who was knowledgeable, engaging, and very welcoming. The tour was very well organized and offered a rich insight into the history and cultural heritage of Muharraq. The Muharraq Nights, during the festive month of December, are truly unmissable. They beautifully showcase the glorious era of pearl diving and bring to life an important and fascinating chapter of Bahrain’s history. I highly recommend this tour to anyone who wishes to experience the soul of Bahrain through its culture, history, and traditions.

About Manama

Manama, Bahrain's capital, is a Gulf waterfront city where glass towers stand beside an old souq, grand mosques and relics of the pearling trade.

Manama sits on the north-eastern coast of Bahrain's main island, where the old gate of Bab Al Bahrain opens into the souq's narrow lanes of spices, gold, fabric and household goods. The Bahrain National Museum on the waterfront follows the island's story from the Dilmun civilisation to the pearl trade, and the Al Fateh Grand Mosque, with its large white dome, is one of the biggest in the Gulf.

Top-ranked sights in Manama: Al Fateh Grand Mosque, Al Areen Wildlife Park & Reserve, Shaikh Isa Bin Ali House.
