Dendera (Arabic: دَنْدَرة Dandarah; Ancient Greek: Τεντυρις or Τεντυρα; Bohairic Coptic: ⲛⲓⲧⲉⲛⲧⲱⲣⲓ, romanized: Nitentōri; Sahidic Coptic: ⲛⲓⲧⲛⲧⲱⲣⲉ, romanized: Nitntōre),[1][2] also spelled Denderah, ancient Iunet “jwn.t”,[3] Tentyris[4][5],(Arabic: Ewan-t إيوان-ة ),[6] or Tentyra[7] is a small town and former bishopric in Egypt situated on the west bank of the Nile, about 5 kilometres (3 mi) south of Qena, on the opposite side of the river. It is located approximately 60 kilometres (37 mi) north of Luxor and remains a Latin Catholic titular see. It contains the Dendera Temple complex, one of the best-preserved temple sites from ancient Upper Egypt.

In antiquity, the temple was known as "Menmaatre Happy in Abydos," and is a significant historical site in Abydos.[1] Abydos is a significant location with its connection to kingship due to being the burial site of the proto-kings from the Pre-Dynastic period, First Dynasty kings, and the location of the Cult of Osiris.[2]

About Luxor

Luxor stands on the site of ancient Thebes, with vast temples on the Nile's east bank and the royal tombs of the Valley of the Kings across the river.

On the east bank, the Karnak temple complex spreads across acres of pylons, obelisks and the forest of columns in its Great Hypostyle Hall. An avenue of sphinxes links it to Luxor Temple in the town centre, which is especially atmospheric when lit up in the evening. The Luxor Museum and the Mummification Museum sit along the riverside corniche.
