With a history of more than 2000 years, it started as an Illyrian tribe called Dalmatae that used it as a stronghold before it was occupied by the Romans. After the fall of the Roman Empire, the site became a seat for Croatian kings. The famous series Game Of Thrones was filmed there, so if you are a fan, this is a must!
