Our tour begins with a descent towards the center of the earth, with a trip to the underground city. There are more than 200 underground cities in Cappadocia up to 8 floors. These troglodyte cave-cities were excavated as early as Hittite times and expanded by early Christians and others over the centuries, as various invader armies targeted Central Anatolia in search of captives and plunder. Carpet weaving is one of the most ancient crafts in Turkey, and for centuries, women have played a pivotal role in their creation. Historically, the Turks were among the earliest carpet weavers. The earliest known carpet utilizing the double knotted Gordes style dates between the 4th and 1st centuries BC. It is believed that the Seljuks introduced carpet weaving techniques into Anatolia in the 12th century. Marco Polo notes in his travel diaries that Konya, the Seljuk capital, was the center of carpet production in the 13th century.

About Goreme
Göreme sits in the heart of Cappadocia, a surreal landscape of fairy chimneys, cave churches and dawn skies filled with hot-air balloons.
Göreme's houses and hotels are carved into soft volcanic rock, and the town is ringed by valleys of cone-shaped fairy chimneys shaped by erosion. The Göreme Open-Air Museum gathers rock-cut monasteries and churches whose frescoes, painted by Byzantine monks, still glow with colour, especially in the Dark Church.
Top-ranked sights in Goreme: Pigeon Valley (Güvercinlik Vadisi), Devrent Valley (Devrent Vadisi), Monks Valley (Pasabag Vadisi).
