1. Please make sure you are at the right meeting point. We meet at Batthyanyi ter metro exit. Our fully licensed local ( born and bred Budapester) tour guide will meet you at the metro exit in the park and will introduce the itinerary of Budapest Castle District tour, one of the most historically significant landmarks in the city. Buda Castle District is made up of the Royal Palace, Matthias Church, Fisherman's Bastion, Maria Magdalena Church Tower and other important buildings, urban public art mini monuments, look out terraces and an underground cave system.

2. Exterior visit only; admission is not included. Learn about the 800 years of history of the area that was the scene of several wars and occupations with the in-depth commentary of your guide. Learn about the German, Jewish and Hungarian populations everyday life in the district. We do not enter the church.

3. You will learn about the connection between Walt Disney and the Fisherman's Bastion, what the difference is between a cross with one, two or three strips and we tell you how to enjoy a free view from the Castle Hill. Exterior visit only; admission is not included.

4. We introduce you the Medieval Jewish Prayer House and the beautiful baroque residential buildings around it. Exterior visit only; admission is not included.

5. We show you the massive destructions of WWII, and tell you where the Nazi stronghold was. You will also see where the rich Hungarians live and where the Muslim site of pilgrimage is for Gül Baba the Ottoman Turkish monk and soldier. Exterior visit only.

6. We introduce you the life of the undrground Castle Hill, the labyrinths and tell you its role in defense over the centuries. You will see the funniest public statues in Budapest and learn about the womanizer light cavarly fighters called "huszar".

You will see the massive building that once was the residence of the Hungarian kings, that was rebuilt many times because of war destructions; learn about the mythical bird of the Hungarians, see where the president and prime ministers offices are located and much much more. Exterior visit only; admission is not included.

8. You will see the beautiful panorama of Pest side of the River Danube from the terrace. If you are lucky we test your knowledge with tricky questions about the major Castle Hill landmarks and life of the Hungarians. Tour will be finished with practical information and there will be time to answer your remaining questions.

  Great guide Andre, showed us around the castle district and explained the history and stories behind the beautiful buildings. Very clear English speaking and welcomed questions from the group. Nice size group and Andre lead us up to the castle in an easy manor, along a path which wasn’t too steep and he paused for breaks along the way explaining the different areas as we went. Really recommend this tour along with others that the same company provide. Whilst it’s a free tour, it’s based on tips and our guide and experience was worth 15 to 20 euros each as we had a lovely morning. Definitely one to do whilst in Budapest!

About Budapest

Budapest joins hilly Buda and flat Pest across the Danube, a grand capital of thermal baths, riverside palaces and lively ruin bars.

On the Buda side, Castle Hill holds Buda Castle, the Matthias Church and the white turrets of Fishermen's Bastion, all looking down on the river. The Chain Bridge crosses to Pest, where the Hungarian Parliament Building stretches along the bank and St Stephen's Basilica rises a few streets inland. Gellért Hill and its Citadella give the widest views.
