Visit the Sulphur Springs and take a dip in a natural waterfall fed by forest streams or the unique spa-like mud baths before continuing on to the Botanical Gardens and Toraille Waterfalls for a guided tour. Taking a dip in this waterfall is a beloved activity for travellers, and can be a great way to start or end a hike into the surrounding rain forest. About Castries
Castries is St Lucia's capital and main port, a harbour town with a colourful market, a hilltop fort, a cathedral square and beaches along the coast.
Castries lies on the north-west coast of St Lucia around a deep, sheltered harbour backed by green hills. The island changed hands between the French and the British some fourteen times before independence in 1979. Derek Walcott Square, named for the island's Nobel prize-winning poet, who was born in the town, is the heart of the centre, with the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception on one side and a huge old saman tree in the square.
