5Highly recommended
Highly recommended, the bikes were well maintained, the guys explaining with patience how to use the bike and where to go are thumbs up, they offer several paths and once the path is on the phone is very easy to follow. We had a great experience!
5The BEST DAY & the BEST WAY to get around Sintra Park!
Excellent bikes, virtually brand new. Came with extra battery. Super helpful staff, who set us up to have an incredible day. Handy pick up location. Easy to operate bikes (never ridden a e-bike). We flew up the hills past the exhausted walkers and jammed cars, buses and tuk tuks. Went anywhere and everywhere on a whim. No uber hassles or full buses for us! The best way to visit the monuments, in particular the further afield monuments such as Monserrate Palace, Convent dos Capuchos and beyond. Easy breezy fun and complete freedom from what can be tricky transport logistics of Sintra Park. Highly recommend, this is MUST DO!!
5Easy to handle and a lot of fun
We booked two ebikes from Park E Bike in Sintra and drove through the beautiful woods with Praia da Adraga as our destination. We made a lunch stop in Colares, a beautiful little town. I can only recommend booking the full day to really have time to enjoy your ride. Handling the bikes was really easy and made exploring Sintra so much fun! The feeling of freedom you get from biking through the landscape by yourself cannot be matched by a bus tour or uber drive. Thanks again for the great experience!
5Family Fun Day in Sintra
Our family of 5 rented electric bikes in Sintra for a half day. We did the king of the hill ride. Electric bikes are the way to go due to the hills. Lots of fun. The owner and staff were very helpful and gave us great recommendations. Would do it again!
4Great ride hindered only by “battery anxiety.”
Cycling Sintra was a beautiful ride. It’s like riding through the Pacific Northwest, the California coast, and Napa Valley all in one loop. My wife and I rented our 4-inch wheeled e-bikes for the day and rode the 24 mile self-tour Atlantic route which took us up to the Sintra castles and parks, and then through vinyards to the ocean and through several coastal towns. There is 2500 ft of gain, so the climbs were significant. But the e-bikes had enough torque to make the hills manageable. The only drawback was that my bike’s battery was threatening exhaustion less than two-thirds of the way through the trip — just as we reached the steepest and hilliest part of the ride. From the start we made a point of not using more than power level 3 out of 5 when climbing steep sections and mostly stayed in levels 1 or 2 the balance of the time. So the battery indicator dropping to 2 out of 5 bars 10 miles from completion caused anxiety. (The outfitter did provide a battery charger with the bike, but didn’t want to stop and ask a local merchant if we could plug into their electric service). In the end, we conserved our batteries by riding mostly in power level 1 the remaining part of the ride.
5Fun ride, even with forests closed
Unfortunately, the national forest was closed due to the threat of forest fires so that changes the experience and the review somewhat. My husband and I did the modified ride to the coast and then a modified King of the Hill up towards Pena Palace (which was also closed). Despite these setbacks, the ride was fun! The navigation app was fabulous and we were hardly ever lost (and then not lost for long). It was our first experience on e-bikes and Sintra was a good place to try them. Very hilly! Organization was good and Martin quick to answer emails for organizing the rides and making suggestions for alternate rides when our first choices were not available.
Sintra is a hill town west of Lisbon, wrapped in misty forest and crowned by a Moorish castle, a colourful Romantic palace and mysterious gardens.
Sintra is a UNESCO-listed cultural landscape on the Serra de Sintra, a granite ridge that catches Atlantic mist and keeps the hills green and cool. Portuguese kings and nobles built summer palaces here. The Pena Palace, a painted fantasy of yellow and red towers, sits on the highest hill, while the Moorish Castle's walls climb the ridge nearby, and the old centre has the Sintra National Palace, recognisable by its two conical chimneys.
Top-ranked sights in Sintra: Quinta da Regaleira, Convent of the Capuchos.
