Højdepunkter
Located in Playa Samara, the paths of the Werner Sauter Biological Reserve, will lead you to an amazing hiking tour. To discover Samara trails on a different light, our experienced guide will amaze you with interesting facts, regarding our biodiversity and its many wonders. Come join us to visit one of the only private reserves in Guanacaste. The tropical dry forest is one of the most vulnerable and rare biomes of Central America. In Guanacaste, the characteristic six month dry season leaves the land susceptible to wildfires that often devastate the forest and its wildlife. As if this was not enough, over the past 40 years widespread deforestation and large scale agriculture have reduced the dry forests to a mere fraction of what they were in the past.

The tropical dry forest is one of the most vulnerable and rare bio-mes of Central America. Undoubtedly this type of forest houses one of the most interesting and complex ecosystems of the area; the natural scarcity of water has caused wildlife to evolve and thrive in an environment with fewer nutrients than other tropical forests while also maintaining the ability endure six months of intense tropical rain. Samara Trails tour takes you through the Werner Sauter Biological Reserve, one of the only private reserves in Guanacaste.
This 2.5-hour guided hike starts in a former cattle farm, continues through a mango plantation, you can eat all the organic mangos that you want!, and finally takes you to the reserve where nature runs wild.

5Nature walk.
The tour was amazing. Our guide Alex was briliant l, showing us around, we got to see monkeys, birds and a rare white bat. He had great knowledge of the plants and animals in the area, and we had a fantastic morning. If your Samara and fancy a wildlife walk I would recomend these guys.
5So worth it!!!
Our guide Alex and driver Rodrigo were both excellent! Alex was very friendly and incredibly knowledgeable as he guided us through the reserve and helped us see some of the animals close up with a magnifier. We got lucky and saw two different species of monkeys! The reserve itself is very peaceful, and the short hike for the views of Sámara was absolutely worth it. Highly recommend this experience!
5It was great. We saw 2...
It was great. We saw 2 types of monkeys and birds. It was great to get all the information about the animals from our tour guide and he got us so many wonderful pics and videos of the animals.
5Great solo woman traveler hike in forest and old mango orchard a couple minutes from Sandra
I loved my early morning hike! My guide Alex was friendly, engaging, and knowledgeable, pointing out a troop of white faced monkeys, howler monkeys, and lots of birds, and talked with me about trees, plants and bugs. He was really patient, I never felt rushed. It's a nice walk with a great view from the to of a bit of a hill. Although he brought binoculars, I'd recommend bringing your own, as well as lots of water and bug spray. And I loved the early morning while it's still (sort of) cool and the animals are active. Great solo woman traveler experience.
5Awesome!
Christopher our guide was incredible. We learned so much. He is knowledgable on many fronts: history, geology, botany, conservation, animal behavior. Truly worth every penny.
5We saw so much wildlife, ate mangos, and had fun!
Chris was the best! We saw white faced capuchins, howler monkeys and so much more! We also asked so many questions and got answers to them all! 10 out of 10!

About Sámara
Sámara is a relaxed Pacific beach town on Costa Rica's Nicoya Peninsula, with a calm crescent bay sheltered by a reef and a small island.
Sámara sits on a wide, curved bay on the Pacific coast of the Nicoya Peninsula, in Guanacaste province. A coral reef and the small island of Chora shelter the beach, so the water inside is calm and shallow, good for swimming and for learning to surf. Palm trees line the sand, and the streets behind hold small hotels, cafés, and surf and yoga schools.
