Rute

  1. The european palace of Ottoman Empire that built in 1856 by 2 Armenian architect. Dolmabahçe Palace, Turkey’s largest mono-block palace, was commissioned by Sultan Abdül Mecit in 1843. Built to belie the military and financial decline of the Ottoman Empire, Istanbul’s first European-style palace was an opulent one, excessive in size and filled with gold and crystal. Starting with the move of the administrative center of the Ottoman Empire from Topkapi Palace in 1856, until the abolishment of the caliphate in 1924, the Dolmabahçe Palace was home to six sultans. Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of the Turkish Republic, used the palace as a presidential house in the summer and enacted some of his most important works here, e.g. the introduction of the new alphabet. Troubled by health problems, he spent his last years in the palace until he died at 09.05 on November 10, 1938. In his honor, all the clocks in the palace are stopped at that exact time.

  4. Taste delicious Turkish Delight, dried fruits and nuts. One of the quintessential parts of any trip to Istanbul is wandering through the Spice Bazaar, also known as the Egyptian Bazaar (Mısır Çarşısı). Underneath the ornate vaulted ceilings, you will find all the delectables and souvenirs most appealing to tourists, all in one location. These include spices, dried fruit, cheese, sausage, jam, nuts, seeds, tea, dozens of flavors of Turkish Delight, and more. You can also find jewelry, ceramics, silver, and other handicrafts. Built in 1664, the bazaar used to be a place where mostly goods imported from Egypt were being sold. This is also where its name came from. Later on, however, it also started to be called the Spice Bazaar, due to the diversity of goods and spices, imported from different countries apart from Egypt. The Spice Bazaar is constructed in an “L” shape with a total of 113 shops. During the Ottoman Empire, the bazaar acted as a pharmacy for many years.

About Istanbul

Top-ranked sights in Istanbul: Dolmabahce Palace (Dolmabahce Sarayi), Bosphorus, Bosphorus Bridge (Bogazici Koprusu).
