Also known as Lakes of Madeira At the beginning of the descent to the house of Rabaçal is the entrance to this magnificent journey. It is a short walk with 3km accessible to anyone, where you can enjoy fantastic views over the Rabaçal as you move along the way. Until you reach the beggining of the levada, hikers can enjoy the vast vegetation composed mainly by the Urze and the Uveira da Serra, as well as several species of local fauna, which highlight the birds and cows. Enjoy the walk to the beautiful lakes and waterfalls that emerge along the way, where stands out the wonderful Lagoa Dona Beja, with a waterfall that feeds the Lagoa do Vento. • Distance: 6.8 km (round trip) • Duration 1 to 2 hours • it includes: Levada, Lagoon, Waterfall, Birds and Endemic flora

About Funchal

Funchal is the capital of Madeira, a Portuguese island in the Atlantic, set on steep green hills with flower-filled gardens and a seafront old town.

Funchal spreads up a steep hillside above a natural harbour on Madeira's south coast. The old town, the Zona Velha, has narrow lanes with painted doors and small restaurants, and the cathedral dates from around 1500. The Mercado dos Lavradores sells tropical fruit, fish and flowers in a hall decorated with blue tiles. A cable car climbs from the harbourfront to Monte, high above.
