1. Free visit of the city where you can try the famous special coffee or delicious gelato in one of the many coffee bars in the historic center. Look out from its balconies overlooking the sea to take pictures of the famous caves. Dip your feet in the waters by the cliff at Cala Porto or simply admire the view from the bridge on the ancient Via Traiana. Fly with your imagination next to the statue of Domenico Modugno.

2. Walk around the historic center with the possibility of visiting one of the thousands trulli inside. Visit to the Trullo Sovrano (2 euros), the most majestic and rich in history, now a museum. Visit to the Trullo Church dedicated to Sant'Antonio da Padova. The trulli are extraordinary examples of dry stone slab construction, a technique dating back to prehistoric times and still used in this region. The trulli are traditional dry stone huts with a roof made of dry-set slabs. They served as temporary shelters or as permanent homes for small landowners or agricultural workers. They were built in roughly worked limestone, extracted during excavations for the construction of underground cisterns, stones collected in the countryside and from surrounding rocky outcrops. These buildings have the characteristic rectangular structure with a conical roof made of set stones.

3. Visit to the ancient area called Sassi and lunch break in one of the many local restaurants. The name Sassi identifies the two main neighborhoods that make up the historic center of the city of Matera, Baresano and Caveoso, obtained by working the local tuff stone. Partly excavated and partly built, these rock complexes have been inhabited since prehistoric times. Promoted to World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1993, they represent the testimony of exceptional human life since the dawn of time. Possibility of guided tours on request.

  We had a wonderful two days with Enzo. We were able to see Matera, Alberobello, Polignano, Monopoli, Locorotondo, Ostuni and Cisternino from our base in Bari. We could never have seen as much without him. Enzo was friendly and knowledgeable.

• 5Personal tour tailored to us!

  This was a little pricier but well worth it. It was just the four of us, me my husband, my daughter and her boyfriend. Enzo (short for Vincenzo) picked us up in front of our hotel, our first stop Polignano a mare. Lovely town by the sea, the specialty coffee and gelato he suggested as a must were delicious! Enzo gave as a run down of the place then we spent some time exploring. Next was Alberobello, beautiful town of trulli huts. We wanted to see the old stone town of Matera so he organised a tuk tuk tour for us. Best idea ever as it is so big and steep we would never see as much as we did! Our guide was amazing too! The whole time he was happy to make changes as we wanted! Thank you! On the way home we asked for some ideas for restaurants and bars and he gave us some good tips! The local restaurant Enzo suggested was amazing! Very good food, thank you for that! Super happy with the service! 🤩

• 5Wonderful day with Enzo !!!

  Our group of 6 spent a full day with Enzo and had a wonderful time. He told us lots of history about Matera and we had a great walking tour of the city. Then, off to Alberobello for lunch and more history of the town. We then headed to the cliff-side city of Poligano where we saw the statue of Domenico Modugno - the legendary Italian singer-songwriter who captivated the world with 'Volare'. We ended up back in Bari with a stop at the historic Basilica St. Nichols before heading back to the Silver Muse. Enzo was a great host and spoke very good English - highly recommend his tour.

  This is an incredible way to explore the different towns and beauty Puglia has to offer! Enzo was very knowledgeable and easy going. He was great at answering our questions, giving us plenty of time to explore and learn more about local culture.

About Bari

Bari is the port city of Puglia on the Adriatic, with a maze-like old town, a medieval basilica holding the relics of St Nicholas and a long seafront.

Bari's old town, Bari Vecchia, is a tangle of white lanes and tiny squares on a peninsula pointing into the Adriatic, and many of its streets feel more like shared courtyards.
