  1. Explore the southern part of Mauritius in a 7hrs private day tour. The tour begins with pick-up anywhere in Mauritius. You will meet & be greeted by our driver/guide, then you are ready to set off for your first stop. You'll be heading to Trou Aux Cerfs which is one of the famous natural tourist attractions in Mauritius. The dormant volcanic crater is around 605 meters above sea level, with a diameter of 350 meters & a depth of around 100 meters. Unlike the typical volcanic features, Trou aux Cerfs’ crater is surrounded by a vast area of lush forest consisting of indigenous plant species and some giant green pine trees. It is believed that the Trou aux Cerfs erupted once and has remained dormant for the last 700 000 years; experts believe that there is a potential chance for it to become active again. Definitely, one of the main highlights is the 360-degree view of the town, Curepipe & the majestic view of Rempart Mountain, Trois Mamelles, and the Port-Louis-Moka Mountain range.

    30 min

  2. Afterward, head to Mare Aux Vacoas reservoir which has the honor of being the largest reservoir on the island with a capacity of almost 26 million cubic meters and is simultaneously a rather popular stop for tourists visiting the south of the island. Although nothing as fancy as the other attractions in Mauritius, Mare aux Vacoas is a gem hidden between lines of thick forests. It is the perfect place to spend a relaxing few minutes away from the usual hustle and bustle of the country. The reservoir even offers a rather amazing view worth several clicks.

  3. After few minutes driving, you will reach Grand Bassin (commonly known as Ganga Talao is a crater lake, about 550 meters above sea level, located in the mountainous Southwest of Mauritius. On the shoreline sits a temple along with a collection of small shrines dedicated to Lord Shiva and other gods. During your visit to this sacred site, you will inevitably be awestruck by the gigantic statue of Lord Shiva. However, fear not about your doom, at Grand Bassin you will find the Hindu God Lord Shiva, smiling and as peaceful as ever. The statue is 33 meters high & is the highest known statue in Mauritius. Ganga Talao is a major draw of crowds in Mauritius, with many people visiting the site to pray meditate, or simply to walk by the lake and enjoy the gorgeous surrounding views. The lake of Ganga Talao is thought to be around 18 meters deep and is teeming with a healthy population of fish and eels.

You will be amazed to discover how high the viewing area is from the gorge. On the right side of the viewpoint, you can see a breathtaking waterfall. The path leading to the viewpoint has a unique ambiance of its own with some souvenir stalls. Besides, on your way, you might come across a group of monkeys that come and greet you as a sign of welcome The Black River Gorges Nature Reserve was constructed in order to save the natural vegetation of the island and make it one of the most important Mauritian sights. The most impressive feature of the road is the almost 180-degree bend that it takes at one point, providing a dramatic and exhilarating experience for those who travel along it. The photography of this scenic route captures the essence of Mauritius' natural beauty. The dense and lush forest provides a canopy of greenery over the road, creating a sense of serenity and tranquility for those who pass through it. Booking was very easy and the communication was on point. Feroz turned up at the hotel early and the car was immaculately clean and smelled nice. Feroz's knowledge of every area was extensive, he was very gentle and kind and looked after me really well, he even took some photos for me so that I could be in them. He catered to what I wanted out of the journey as I needed extra time to go ziplining at Valle Park. Due to delays because of large groups I ended up being late coming out of the park but Feroz waited for me patiently and was completely understanding. Unfortunately I had a bad fall and my knee was bleeding everywhere, I said we could just go back to the hotel because I was so late but he insisted that I get medical attention so we were even later. I felt so well looked after and I could not recommend this service enough.

Take a picnic to save time. Lots of beauty spots to have a picnic. Maybe take a waterproof coat, as rain could occur at any moment. Victor our guide was friendly, and extremely knowledgeable. He drove carefully and was on time. Ridwaan who organised the tour had great communication with us. The tour was very varied, Hindu temples, nature parks and waterfalls, volcano and adventure parks. A lovely day

  • 4Great tour

Good tour, we highly recommend. Our driver was very knowledgeable about the local area and took us to several different locations and was able to explain about it's history. We knocked one star off as really wanted to swim in some waterfalls but didn't get to.

About Port Louis

Port Louis is the capital of Mauritius, a working harbour city with a big central market, a hilltop citadel and a waterfront of shops and cafés.

Port Louis lies on the north-west coast of Mauritius, at the foot of a ring of volcanic peaks. Founded in the 1730s by the French governor Mahé de La Bourdonnais, it is a mix of colonial buildings, mosques, temples and glass towers. The Central Market sells spices, fruit, vanilla and tea, and the Caudan Waterfront has shops, cafés and the Blue Penny Museum, which holds the island's rare early stamps.
