The adult Lipizzaner is characteristically white, but the foals are brown, reddish or grey; they turn white only after six to ten years. Ljubljana is Slovenia's small, green capital, a riverside city of bridges, a hilltop castle and cafés, with lakes and mountains within reach.
Ljubljana sits on the Ljubljanica River beneath a castle on a wooded hill, and its compact centre is closed to most traffic. The architect Jože Plečnik shaped much of the look of the city, with the Triple Bridge, the riverside market colonnades and the National and University Library. The Dragon Bridge, guarded by four dragons, recalls the city's symbol, and a funicular climbs to the castle.
Top-ranked sights in Ljubljana: Dragon Bridge, Ljubljana Old Town, Triple Bridge (Tromostovje).
