Hiroshima's Peace Memorial Park (平和記念公園, Heiwa Kinen Kōen) is one of the most prominent features of the city. Even visitors not looking for it will likely stumble upon the large park of over 120,000 square meters. Its trees, lawns, and walking paths are in stark contrast to the surrounding downtown area. Before the bomb, the area of what is now the Peace Park was the political and commercial heart of the city. For this reason, it was chosen as the pilot's target. Four years to the day after the bomb was dropped, it was decided that the area would not be redeveloped but instead devoted to peace memorial facilities. Admission Fee: ¥200
Hiroshima Castle (広島城, Hiroshimajō), also called the Carp Castle, is a notable example of a castle built on a plain in the center of a city. Its grounds are surrounded by a moat, and the castle precincts include a shrine, historic ruins, and reconstructed Ninomaru (second bailey) buildings. Built in 1589 by the powerful feudal lord Mori Terumoto, Hiroshima Castle was an important seat of power in Western Japan. Like the rest of the city, it was destroyed by the atomic bombing in 1945. ※Please note that Hiroshima Castle’s main keep has been closed to the public since March 2026 due to safety concerns. The castle can still be viewed from the outside, while the Ninomaru buildings, Ninomaru Museum Shop, and Sannomaru area remain open to visitors.
Shukkeien is a Japanese garden in Hiroshima, designated as one of Japan’s Top 100 Historical Parks and a National Scenic Spot. This article introduces the highlights of the garden, access information, and other tips to enjoy it.

2Hiroshima a bit of a disappointment
Our guide was very good with communication prior to the tour and was helpful with taxi, restaurants and other logistics. Her English was good in terms of knowledge but she was very hard to understand especially when addressing our small group. The actual tour of the Hiroshima sights was a disappointment. When reading the reviews about this particular private tour, it was mentioned again and again how informative the tour was in terms of the history of Japan at war, the events leading up to the dropping of the atomic bomb and its aftermath. We were toured by the major sites and given essentially the same commentary that was on the placards. In addition, on most private tour, entrance tickets are purchased in advance to avoid waiting in long lines. This did not happen at the Museum and we waited in a long line and were also not warned about the literal crush of people trying to make their way through the museum. Room for improvement.
5A first-rate guide in Hiroshima
Kazuhisa To was a great guide and a wonderful person to explore Hiroshima with. We have all seen pictures of the Atomic Dome or the Children’s Memorial. The Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum was surprisingly breathtaking. We visited at a time when hundreds of schoolchildren were also visiting. Kazuhisa knew it would be hard to get in , much less through. He found a workable solution to insure that we were able to experience the museum. His forthought was more important than I really understood until we went. Kazuhisa is a thoughtful student of history and a passionate spokesman for Japan and Hiroshima. We were also fortunate to tour Miyajima with him while while we were there a few days later.
5Very educational!
Kazuhisa To did a great job. My dad and I have been looking forward to visiting Hiroshima and learning about its rich history. Kazuhisa To explained everything so well and we both learned a lot during the tour. Really enjoyed it!
5The perfect way to experience Hiroshima
We had a great tour of the Peace Park, a delicious lunch, and got lucky to experience a traditional tea ceremony. The history of the atomic bomb as well as the aftermath are quite sobering to say the least. Our guide Hiroshi was the absolute best as we navigated the memorials and the museum. He was knowledgeable, friendly, and just a really fun person to chat with! I highly recommend this tour if you’re coming to Hiroshima.
5Great tour of Hiroshima

5A Truly Meaningful and Unforgettable Hiroshima Experience ❤️
I can’t thank Hasshi enough for such a meaningful and unforgettable experience in Hiroshima. My father was in Japan in 1947, just after the war, so visiting Hiroshima was very personal for me. Hearing Hasshi share the history and read the letters made everything feel so real and brought my father’s story a little closer to me. We visited the Peace Memorial sites, Hiroshima Castle and other important places, and Hasshi brought each location to life with her knowledge and stories. She was so kind, thoughtful and passionate throughout the day. I would highly recommend Hasshi to anyone visiting Hiroshima. She is an exceptional guide and made our experience truly special. Thank you, Hasshi, for sharing your city and its history with us. ❤️
Hiroshima, on Japan's Seto Inland Sea, is a rebuilt river city whose Peace Memorial Park and museum recall the atomic bombing of 1945.
Hiroshima spreads across the delta of the Ōta River, whose channels, bridges and trams give the city an open feel. The atomic bomb of 6 August 1945 destroyed most of it. The Peace Memorial Park beside the river holds the Atomic Bomb Dome, a ruined building left standing and listed by UNESCO, the Peace Memorial Museum and the Children's Peace Monument.
Top-ranked sights in Hiroshima: Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum, Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park, Miyajima Island (Itsukushima).
