3. The surviving tower and ruins of St. Nikolai provide a powerful link to Hamburg's wartime history. Once one of the world's tallest buildings, the former church was largely destroyed during World War II and now serves as a memorial to the devastation of war and those who lost their lives. Tickets to the tower are not included.

4. One of the oldest surviving streets in central Hamburg, Deichstraße is lined with narrow historic merchant houses overlooking the Nikolaifleet canal. 6. Rising above the historic Kaispeicher warehouse, the Elbphilharmonie has become one of Hamburg's most recognizable modern landmarks. Its public Plaza offers sweeping views across the Elbe, the harbor, Speicherstadt, and HafenCity, giving you a clear sense of how the historic port and modern city sit side by side. Access to the concert halls is not included.

About Hamburg

Hamburg is Germany's second city and biggest port, a place of canals, red-brick warehouses, a harbourside concert hall and the Reeperbahn.

Hamburg lies on the Elbe, about a hundred kilometres from the North Sea, and trade made it rich as a Hanseatic city. The Speicherstadt, a district of red-brick warehouses on timber piles beside canals, is listed by UNESCO together with the neighbouring Kontorhaus quarter. Beyond it the Elbphilharmonie concert hall rises from an old warehouse, with a public viewing terrace over the harbour.
