In the State Historical-Artistic Reserve Gobustan, one can also see the sites of the first people, remnants of a large prehistoric cromlech and other testimonies about the inhabitants of the region of the Stone Age and subsequent periods. Mud volcanoes are closely associated with hydrocarbon and petrochemical stores underground, hence the gas trying to escape to the surface.

The Bibi-Heybat Mosque is a historical mosque in Baku, Azerbaijan. The existing structure, built in the 1990s, is a recreation of the mosque with the same name built in the 13th century by Shirvanshah Farrukhzad II Ibn Ahsitan II, which was completely destroyed by the Bolsheviks in 1936.The Bibi-Heybat Mosque includes the tomb of Ukeyma Khanum (a descendant of Muhammad), and today is the spiritual center for the Muslims of the region and one of the major monuments of Islamic architecture in Azerbaijan. It is locally known as "the mosque of Fatima", which is what Alexandre Dumas called it when he described the mosque during his visit in the 1840s.

About Baku
Baku is Azerbaijan's capital on the Caspian Sea, where a walled medieval old town sits beside oil-era mansions and glass towers shaped like flames.
The walled Old City, Icherisheher, is a UNESCO-listed maze of lanes with the Maiden Tower and the Palace of the Shirvanshahs, both medieval. Beyond the walls, grand mansions from the oil boom of the late nineteenth century line the streets, and a long boulevard runs beside the Caspian. The three Flame Towers glow on the skyline, and Zaha Hadid's curving Heydar Aliyev Centre is a landmark of modern architecture.
Top-ranked sights in Baku: Bibi-Heybat Mosque (Bibiheybet Mescidi), Yanar Dag, Baku Old City (Icherisheher).
