Ischia is the largest island in the Bay of Naples, a green volcanic cone whose peak, Monte Epomeo, rises to nearly 800 metres. The Aragonese Castle, set on a rocky islet joined to the shore by a causeway, stands on the site of ancient fortifications and was rebuilt in the fifteenth century.
