4Could have been better
The open air bus was nice. The tour was perfect for our day trip. The problem was with the narrator who spoke way too fast. I’m sure he tried to jam a lot of info in but no one could follow him.
5Double Decker Bus - great way to get overview of the battle
Loved being out in the open air on the top of the bus listening to tour guide give overview of the battle. I felt the higher vantage point let's you really see the battlefield more completely and give better sense of the landscape. If you have young kids, just being in the open top will make it worth it but mine was little too young for the provided earbuds to fit so they kept falling out. Now she would not have understood what the guide was saying but i wish we brought her headphones to plug them in so at least i didn't spend the first 10 minutes putting the earbud back in every 20 seconds after it fell out until she just gave up and started to watch the scenery. The two hours flies by but this is still an overview and the 2 houres flies by.
5The Place to Start
This tour provides an encompassing experience that might fulfill the desires of many travellers, but should be the first stop for all battlefield visitors. Those desiring to see the battlefield and gain an understanding of the different sites and how the battle unfolded over several days will be satisfied with the tour. Those wanting a more immersive experience can use the tour to better plan and inform their more detailed experience. The double deck coaches are well maintained, and the design of the headsets well done to allow passengers to hear the very informative tour guides. The tours are reasonably priced and the staff from check in, to the bus to the gift shop are very professional. Highly recommended!
5Only had one day to visit
This was an amazing tour, our guide was so knowledgeable and witty it made for a great day. There is so much to see and do in Gettysburg, I wish I could have stayed for the entire week, I will be coming back again. Thanks for a great day.
5Quite Outstanding!
Visiting from the UK, we had booked our place months before and found the tour exceptional. If we were to make some observations: Do book early. I’m not sure if demand outstrips supply, but our bus was 100% full. Get an early bus if possible. In summer, it’s cooler. Plus if you haven’t made an advance booking, there’s probably a better chance of getting a later tour. Ours was for 10:00. Service and issue of tickets at the park centre was excellent. The scale and complexity of the battle can be overwhelming. A tour focuses on what REALLY needs to be seen. The risk of a self-tour is a sense of fatigue setting in, and missing out on highlights. Within seconds of the start, it was obvious that our guide had an outstanding knowledge of the battle. Probably limitless! Two hours is a good time. Shorter would not do the tour justice. Longer, and some people might lose concentration. Our guide focussed not just on the mechanics of the battle, but the human aspects too. Do not think this is a tour for military buffs. Far from it. Three ‘pit-stops’ to disembark the bus and be spoken around key areas of the battlefield add to the overall sense of the battle and value of the tour. You can have a few minutes to wander off, but we stayed with the guide as we found him so interesting. The tour runs to the minute. Don’t be late, or you’ll miss the bus. At each stop, you’ll be told how much time to have to wander. Don’t be late, the bus will leave you behind. We were so glad that we based our stop at Gettysburg around this tour. Just excellent. Cannot recommend highly enough.
Gettysburg is a small Pennsylvania town beside the battlefield where the Union army defeated Lee's army in July 1863, with museums, monuments and orchards.
Gettysburg is a small town in south-central Pennsylvania, surrounded by farmland and low ridges. The Battle of Gettysburg was fought here over three days in July 1863, the largest battle of the American Civil War, and the Union victory is seen as a turning point. The battlefield is now a national military park, covering miles of fields and ridges with hundreds of monuments, cannon and markers.
Top-ranked sights in Gettysburg: Gettysburg National Military Park, Little Round Top, Jennie Wade House.
