Modiano is one of the most traditional markets of Thessaloniki. It is located in the heart of the city and it has been part of the Thessalonians’ life for about 80 years. Its construction started in 1922 and finished in 1930 by architect Eli Modiano. Coming from a renowned Jewish (Sephardic) family of Thessaloniki, Eli was the son of the banker Jacob (Yako) Modiano. He studied architecture in Paris, France and returned to Thessaloniki where he created some of the city’s most important buildings, including the Modiano Market.
Full of life, throughout the day, Athonos Square in the centre of the city is a place loved by, both Thessalonians and tourists alike. Here, food and nutrition plays the leading part. Louloudadika is a small area of the historic city center including the streets of Komninon, Frangon and Vas. Herakliou, which takes its name from the old outdoor florists that were there. Unfortunately only 4 continue to run today. In the ’50s there were 11 shops selling all sorts of flowers and their fame reached to the provincial cities.

Thessaloniki, Greece's second city, is a Byzantine and Ottoman port on the Aegean, with a waterfront tower, Roman monuments and excellent street food.
Thessaloniki was founded in 315 BC and became one of the main cities of the Roman and Byzantine worlds. The White Tower stands on the waterfront promenade, a rounded Ottoman-era tower that is now the city's emblem, and the Rotunda and the Arch of Galerius recall the Roman ruler who made the city his base. The early Christian and Byzantine churches, among them Agios Dimitrios, are listed by UNESCO.
Top-ranked sights in Thessaloniki: White Tower (Lefkos Pyrgos), Aristotelous Square, Church and Crypt of Ayios Dimitrios.
