Sintra is a tourist town at the foot of the Sintra mountains, in Portugal, close to the capital, Lisbon. For a long time as a royal sanctuary, its wooded land is studded with farms and palaces in pastel colors. The National Palace of Sintra, of Moorish and Manueline style, is distinguished by the two stunning identical chimneys and the elaborate tiles. The 19th century Pena National Palace, at the top of the hill, is known for its extravagant design and stunning views.
The Pena National Palace, referred to only as Pena Palace or Pena Castle, is located in the village of Sintra, in the municipality of Sintra, in the district of Lisbon, in Portugal.
The bakery that would later be known as Piriquita was founded in 1862, some 160 years ago. The name Piriquita originated from the nickname that King D. Carlos I gave to Constância Gomes, based on his short stature. It was King D. Carlos I who encouraged the couple to prepare the famous Queijadas, a sweet that they enjoyed during their summers in Sintra. Success was immediate and the bakery quickly became a pastry shop.

Lisbon spills down its hills to the Tagus estuary, a city of tiled façades, rattling yellow trams, viewpoint terraces and late, unhurried dinners.
The old quarters hold most of the charm. Alfama's tangle of lanes climbs to São Jorge Castle and echoes with fado in the evening, the Baixa's orderly grid runs down to the vast Praça do Comércio on the river, and Bairro Alto and Chiado mix bookshops and cafés by day with bars by night. Viewpoints such as Santa Luzia and Senhora do Monte frame red rooftops and shining water.
Top-ranked sights in Lisbon: Commerce Square (Praça do Comércio), Pena National Palace (Palacio Nacional da Pena), Alfama.
