Previous eruptions have devastated Catania with the lava reaching the sea on several occasions. Continue with the drive to Taormina but first you will make an exciting stop to visit a winery in the lava of the Etna volcano. Here you will have a guided tour of the winery, a lunch with typical Sicilian products of this area and a guided wine tasting (it’s price euros 45,00 at person).

About Catania

Catania, on Sicily's east coast, is a black lava-stone city beneath Mount Etna, with a noisy fish market, Baroque squares and a long seafront.

Catania lies at the foot of Mount Etna, the active volcano whose lava reached the city in 1669, and an earthquake in 1693 flattened it. Rebuilt in the eighteenth century in the Baroque style, it uses black lava stone for walls and paving, set against white limestone.
