Step into the labyrinth of Fez el-Bali, the world’s largest car-free urban area, and embark on a shopping experience like no other. This guided tour isn’t just about buying souvenirs — it’s a deep dive into the heart of Moroccan craftsmanship, where centuries-old skills are passed down from master to apprentice in hidden workshops and lively souks.
Watch the age-old leather dyeing process from a panoramic terrace. Learn about how hides are treated using natural methods, then browse handcrafted leather bags, jackets, shoes, and belts.
Listen to the melodic clinking of hammers as artisans shape copper trays, teapots, and lanterns. This is the place to find beautiful, handmade brass and silver home décor with intricate engravings.
Explore a ceramics workshop where clay is molded, painted, and fired on-site. Admire ornate zellige tile fountains, mosaic tables, and colorful pottery. Items can be customized and shipped worldwide.
Step into an apothecary of scents — amber, musk, saffron, rose, argan oil, and handmade soaps. Try natural remedies and traditional Moroccan beauty products, like black soap and rhassoul clay.
Learn how tribal rugs are made, knot by knot. Hear the meanings behind Berber symbols and see the difference between wool, silk, and blended carpets. No pressure to buy — just appreciation of the craft.
Browse hand-painted ceramics, silver jewelry, embroidered linens, and carved woodwork. Your expert can help you find fixed-price shops if you prefer a haggle-free experience — or join in the fun of bargaining in the souks!
In a wonderfully restored early-18th-century funduq (inn used by caravans), the former rooms for travelling merchants are given over to displays of fine woodwork from across Morocco, including doors, prayer beads and musical instruments. Many show the difference between Amazigh traditional styles and the more Andalusian designs of Fez. A highlight are the worn wooden boards used by Quranic recitation students, patched with copper and adorned with their graduation certificates. The rooftop cafe is simple but has great views over the medina.

Fez is Morocco's old imperial capital and cultural heart, with a vast walled medina of lanes, souks, tanneries and medieval religious schools.
Fes el-Bali, the old medina, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a living medieval city where donkeys and handcarts still carry goods through narrow lanes. Its best-known gateway, the Bab Bou Jeloud with its blue and green tiles, leads into a maze of souks, fountains and old caravanserais.
Top-ranked sights in Fez: Medina of Fez (Fes el-Bali), Bab Bou Jeloud (Bab Boujeloud), Volubilis.
