About San Antonio

San Antonio is a Texas city of Spanish missions and the Alamo, with a winding River Walk, Mexican food and the Hill Country on its doorstep.

San Antonio grew around Spanish missions founded in the early eighteenth century, and the Alamo, a mission chapel where Texan defenders fell to Mexican forces in 1836, is its best-known landmark. San Antonio Missions National Historical Park protects four more missions along the river, and together with the Alamo they form a World Heritage site.
