About Safaga

Safaga is a Red Sea port town in Egypt, south of Hurghada, known for its reefs, windy lagoons and as a starting point for Luxor and the Eastern Desert.

Safaga lies on the Red Sea coast of Egypt about sixty kilometres south of Hurghada, between the sea and the bare mountains of the Eastern Desert. It began as a phosphate port and still has a working harbour, and a string of resorts has grown up along the sandy bay.
