The Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve (Reserva Biologica del Bosque Nuboso de Monteverde) is where some of the best-kept cloud forest in all of Costa Rica can be found. It is a cloud forest, not a rain forest, due to its elevation of 4,724 ft (1,440 m) above sea level. Some of the best bird-watching can be done inside and outside the reserve. Founded in 1972, the Monteverde Cloud Forest Biological Reserve is among the most famous reserves in the world for its biodiversity, conservation, contributions, and scientific researches. This 3,500 hectare of land holds 2.5% of the world’s biodiversity, and it is one of the most important private reserves in Costa Rica. About Monteverde

Monteverde is a mountain community in Costa Rica's cloud forest, known for misty reserves, hanging bridges, birdlife and coffee farms.

Monteverde is a scattering of farms and small villages on the Tilarán Mountains, around 1,400 metres up, where moist winds from the Caribbean wrap the ridge in cloud. Quaker families from the United States settled here in the 1950s and began dairy farming, and they helped protect the forest above. The Monteverde Cloud Forest Biological Reserve and the neighbouring Santa Elena Reserve preserve mossy trees, ferns, orchids and hanging vines.
