About Mainz
Mainz is a Rhine city and the home town of Gutenberg, with a thousand-year-old red sandstone cathedral, Chagall's blue windows and Rheinhessen wine.
Mainz stands on the west bank of the Rhine where the Main river joins it, the capital of Rhineland-Palatinate. St Martin's Cathedral, begun around 975, rises in red sandstone above the old town's market square.
