Hallstatt is a tiny lakeside village in Austria's Salzkammergut, its houses stacked on a steep shore, with a salt mine worked for thousands of years.
Hallstatt crowds a narrow shelf of land between the Hallstätter See and the steep walls of the Dachstein range, its colourful houses and church spire mirrored in the water.
