3. Our second stop is the sacred House of the Virgin Mary, nestled in the serene Aladağ Mountains, just five miles from ancient Ephesus. According to tradition, Mary journeyed to Ephesus with St. John in 37 A.D. and spent the final years of her life here until her passing in 48 A.D. Recognized as a holy site, it was declared a place of pilgrimage by the Archbishop of Izmir in 1892. Since then, it has drawn visitors from around the world — including Pope Paul VI, who came here to pray on July 26, 1967.

Though only a few columns and scattered ruins remain today, the site still radiates an aura of grandeur and reverence. Dedicated to Artemis, the ancient Greek goddess of the hunt, wilderness, and fertility, this temple once stood as one of the most magnificent and awe-inspiring monuments ever built.

About Kusadasi

Kuşadası is a busy Aegean resort on Turkey's west coast, a short drive from Ephesus, one of the best-preserved ancient cities in the Mediterranean.
