12. You'll have the chance to join a free 30 minute English and Spanish speaking live guided walk. Returning boats depart in every 45 or 90 minutes depending on the schedule.The last daytime boat does not have this option, because there will not be a following boat to pick you up. Please note that low water levels and certain weather conditions can interfere with docking at the island.

• 5Enjoyable evening cruise

  We really enjoyed our evening cruise with a free glass of champagne. We took the one departing at 7.20pm just as all the buildings along the river bank were lightning lighting up. Be sure to get there 30 minutes before departure in order to get the seat of your choice (upper deck?). I understand that this is the only cruise offering a covered waiting area which would be good when the weather is not so nice.

• 2Not as advertised!

  We were very dissatisfied with this booking. It was advertised as a 1 1/2 hour tour with a 30 minute guided tour of Margaret Island. Although we viewed the island, the boat did not stop on the island and no guided tour occurred. The entire cruise lasted only one hour.

  It was just ok. Everything you see on the cruise, you can see just walking down the riverbank and see it yourself.

• 5Fantastic Evening Cruise on Danube

  Great cruise 6:30 pm sailing. Captain turned around at each end to make sure everyone had great views and photo opportunities. Crew was friendly and the audio commentary was very informative.

• 3Okay cruise, nothing special

  Fairly sedate cruise with recorded audio on headsets. A bit difficult to follow which building is which from the audio but pleasant enough. Not great value for $$. Beer, wine, lemonade, champagne and soda served during the trip. Pretty decent photo op.

Budapest joins hilly Buda and flat Pest across the Danube, a grand capital of thermal baths, riverside palaces and lively ruin bars.

On the Buda side, Castle Hill holds Buda Castle, the Matthias Church and the white turrets of Fishermen's Bastion, all looking down on the river. The Chain Bridge crosses to Pest, where the Hungarian Parliament Building stretches along the bank and St Stephen's Basilica rises a few streets inland. Gellért Hill and its Citadella give the widest views.
