The Atacama Desert in northern Chile, with low humidity, high peaks and low light pollution, was pointed out by the National Geografic as the best place on Earth to observe the sky, placing Chile as the new benchmark of the so-called " culture of heaven ”, astrotourism. We will make a presentation on Andean worldview and lickan-antay, then we will observe the dark constellations, The Chakana Cross is the basis of the Andean worldview (constellation of the flame, partridge, snake. But that can only be seen without a moon!) Then we will move on to the stage of modern constellations.

About San Pedro de Atacama

San Pedro de Atacama is an adobe oasis town in northern Chile, ringed by salt flats, volcanoes, geysers and some of the driest desert on earth.

San Pedro de Atacama is a village of low whitewashed adobe houses and dusty streets in an oasis of the Atacama Desert, at about 2,400 metres. Its adobe church goes back to the 17th century and has a roof of cactus wood, and the small Museo Arqueológico Gustavo Le Paige displays mummies and pottery from the desert's early peoples. The cone of Licancabur volcano stands over the town to the east.
