Although Dar es Salaam is larger, Arusha tends to be visited more by tourists as it is the gateway to the northern safari circuit to Serengeti, Ngorongoro, Lake Manyara, Tarangire and Arusha National Park. About Arusha

Arusha, in northern Tanzania beneath Mount Meru, is the starting point for safaris to the Serengeti, the Ngorongoro Crater and Tarangire.

The town sits on the green lower slopes of Mount Meru, Tanzania's second-highest peak, with coffee farms and banana groves on its outskirts and a busy central market at its heart.
