أشياء تفعلها في طاجيكستان

Tajikistan is a Central Asian country almost wholly in the mountains, with the Pamirs, high lakes and a green capital, Dushanbe.

Dushanbe, the capital, lies in a valley beneath the mountains and takes its name from the Tajik word for Monday, the day of an old village market. Tree-lined Rudaki Avenue runs through the centre, a teahouse with decorated ceilings and a large national library stand in the city, and a museum of antiquities holds an ancient reclining Buddha.

Most of the country is mountains. The Pamirs, in the east, are among the highest ranges in the world, and Khorog, in the Gorno-Badakhshan region, sits on the Panj river by the Afghan border and is the main town along the Pamir Highway. Iskanderkul, a mountain lake in the Fann Mountains, lies north of the capital.

Qurutob, flatbread with yoghurt balls and vegetables, is the national dish, and plov, samsa pastries and flat round loaves are everywhere, with green tea in teahouses. Apricots and mulberries are dried and sold in markets. Navruz, the new year at the spring equinox, is the main festival. The high mountain roads are clear of snow from June to September.
