Spend a day walking around Zadar's historic center. If there is a breeze, the sea organ, an art installation consisting of a series of pipes cut into the promenade will play some music for you. Soft, meditative chords become a slightly alarming cacophony of groans when the waves are choppy. The same artist also created the Monument to the Sun, a large disc of solar-powered cells that becomes a multicolored disco ball as the sun sets. Your guide will take you around a historic old town of Roman ruins, medieval churches, and cosmopolitan cafes. You will still have some time to explore the city on your own!

About Split

Split is a busy Dalmatian port built within and around a Roman emperor's palace, with ferries to some of Croatia's loveliest islands.

Diocletian's Palace, built around the turn of the fourth century as the emperor's retirement home, is the old town itself: its walls, cellars and courtyards hold homes, shops and cafés. The Peristyle, the colonnaded heart, leads to the Cathedral of St Domnius, once the emperor's mausoleum, and its bell tower gives views over the rooftops.
