About Interlaken
Interlaken sits between Lake Thun and Lake Brienz in the Swiss Alps, the base for the Jungfrau region's peaks, waterfalls, trains and adventure sports.
Interlaken lies on a flat strip of land between Lake Thun and Lake Brienz, which gave the town its name, with the Aare river running through it. A broad meadow, the Höhematte, faces the Jungfrau, a snow-covered peak often visible on clear days. The town grew in the 19th century as a resort, and grand hotels and a promenade, the Höheweg, remain from that time.
Top-ranked sights in Interlaken: Jungfraujoch Sphinx Observatory (Sphinx-Observatorium), Lake Brienz (Brienzersee), Lake Thun (Thunersee).
