Burlington stands on a hill above Lake Champlain, facing the Adirondack Mountains across the water, with the Green Mountains rising to the east. It is Vermont's largest city and home to the University of Vermont. Church Street Marketplace, a long, traffic-free brick street of shops, cafés and street performers, runs up from the lake.
